WHY WE LOVE IT
  • BLEND
    Rhone Blend
  • ALCOHOL
    13.50%
  • SIZE
    750ml

This is a blend dominated by fruit-driven Grenache, which thrives in the sun-soaked hills of southern Rhone. It also includes 20 percent Syrah added for earthiness, Cinsault for structure and acid, and Carignan for aging potential and minerality.

Behind the Vines:

Domaine Nicolet began in 1875 with one of the first official vineyard holdings in the village of Rasteau in the Cotes du Rhone appellation. Now, several generations later, it includes 30 hectares primarily in the rolling hillsides of Rasteau and in the nearby village of Sablet. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Bertrand works by hand, using organic methods and encouraging native cover crops.

Rasteau is a village just north of Gigondas. The soil is pebbles and sand over limestone, with a vein of blue marl. It's quite warm, sheltered by the Dentelles de Montmirail, a mountain range to the east, making it an ideal spot to grow fruit-driven Grenache and dark, earthy Syrah.

TASTING NOTES

A food-friendly wine with balanced red cherry fruit, dusky earth and mineral notes, tea leaves, and raspberry.
