James Suckling, 90-91 points
“This is another beautiful Bordeaux Supérieur with very fine tannins that frame a medium-bodied red with dark berries and hints of dark chocolate. Lovely.”

“The 2018 Leroy-Beauval is gorgeous. Expressive floral and savory notes add character to this deep, fleshy Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from vineyards in Entre Deux Meres. There is real personality here.”

"The 2018 Château Leroy-Beauval comes from clay and limestone soils on the Right Bank and is 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The winemaking talent here is Mathieu Richard (of Château Badette) and this smoking good Bordeaux Supérieur is still aging all in new oak. Its deep purple color is followed by a powerful bouquet of cassis, spice box, graphite, and toasty oak. Medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, textured, and with a great finish, it should end up being an outstanding wine as well as a great value."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocte, 89-91 points

“The 2018 Leroy-Beauval comes from the lieu-dit Beauval in Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac. It is blended of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc and is estimated to spend a total of 12 months in barrels, 100% of which are new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes barreling out of the glass with bold, provocative baked plums, crème de cassis and blackberry compote notes with touches of menthol, Chinese five spice and bay leaves. Full, rich and seductive in the mouth, it has a rugged, chewy frame and just enough freshness, finishing spicy.”

Our old friend Bordeaux, it has been too long. We pride ourselves on pretty amazing pricing here at Invino, and delicious Bordeaux from great vintages like 2018, are few and far between sometimes. But not today! 90 POINTS to boot, packed with fruit and structure -- the staff here downed the bottle in record time (that’s a GOOD thing!).

This bottle has loads of black raspberry, dark plums, refined texture and toasty spices, with the “correct” Bordeaux notes of sweet tobacco leaf and cigar box, too. Delicious. Wildly well-priced...time to stock up while we have it!

Side note: this is SUCH a great deal, don’t think you need to make something complicated. We drank this last night with a burger, and MAN, it was great. $24! Still can’t believe it!

THE STORY TO KNOW

"The history of this estate in the village of Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac, between Libourne and Bordeaux, reaches back to the 17th century. With a new cellar and organic focus (the estate is in conversion), Leroy-Beauval vinifies each parcel of older vines separately to best express the region’s impeccable terroir. While so much of Bordeaux is dominated by grand estates that demand equally grand prices, we cherish small estates that build on the traditions of the region, artisans who strive for wines that reflect the best of Bordeaux: rich ripe fruit, silky tannins, soulful spice."
