“Really attractive aromas of cherries, cedar, citrus and flowers follow through to a full-body with fine, polished tannins and delicious fruit. Savory with an ash and stone undertone to the fruit character.”

“A reasonably priced IGT Toscana worthy of a filet mignon, the Mazzei 2016 Philip is Cabernet Sauvignon (with a tiny bit of Cabernet Franc). It shows terrific balance and intensity in this classic vintage. Dark fruit, blackberry, cassis, spice, tar and leather build intensity as the wine warms in the glass. It demonstrates impeccable balance and beautifully polished length, making this a wine that offers elegance and power in equal measure.”
Normally $44, this is a crazy steal on a lush, warm Tuscan Cab from a 26th generation family!! ONLY 34 CASES!
All we can say is...WOW. Mazzei is a legend in Tuscany (and Italy, in general), and this offer hits all the sweet spots, to put it mildly! Cabernet, the incredible 2016 vintage, big scores and critical raves, and a jaw-dropping price!
For 26 generations, the Mazzei family has been producing benchmark Italian wines from their historic Castello di Fonterutoli estate in Tuscany, and more recently in the Maremma, Sicily, and the Veneto. Ser Lapo Mazzei is the author of the first known document to use the "Chianti" denomination in 1398. In 1435, his granddaughter, Madonna Smeralda Mazzei, married Piero di Agnolo da Fonterutoli, and the holding became part of the family's estate. This wine is dedicated to Philip Mazzei (1730-1816), an illustrious ancestor of the family, who was also a close friend of Thomas Jefferson. "All men are created equal" incorporated into the Declaration of Independence by Jefferson, was paraphrased from the writings of Philip Mazzei.
