Decanter, 95 points

“With vineyards at 650m, Colpaola is the highest estate in the Matelica zone. Notes of orange zest, oregano and minerals on the nose lead to a lean and lively palate of great intensity and an almost stony, flinty finish. Drinking Window 2023 – 2028”

Colpaola is THE premier producer of high-altitude Verdicchio -- so crisp, complex and flinty...wow! Summer drinking at its finest! 95 points Decanter!

This is a brand new project from the cellar master at BISCI, one of the most respected producers of Verdicchio in the world. It’s no wonder this wine literally made the hair on the backs of our necks stand up. Matelica (can’t help seeing this as Metallica for some reason) is a tiny appellation in the Marche region of Italy, located on the hills behind Mount San Vicino, 650 meters above sea level (1950 feet!), in the hamlet of Braccano. This area is rich with viticultural history. In fact, it was nearby the Colpaola winery that an ancient tomb was discovered with grape seeds dating back to the 8th century B.C.!!! The high altitude, extreme temperature shifts from daytime to nighttime, and excellent exposure produces a compelling example of this fresh, clean white (an ancient variety), and you MUST try it at our spectacular price today!!

Beautifully flinty, floral and minerally, it is redolent with notes of sweet mountain herbs, citrus oils and bracing lemony flavors...so lively and pure and fresh! This wine is well-known as a good cellaring candidate as well, so put a few away for 2022 and beyond! $18! Amazing!
