TASTING NOTES 

The 2016 A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir highlights the ripeness and concentration of the vintage with an uncommon grace and style. The compelling nose opens with vibrant notes of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, raspberry, strawberry, red current, plum, thyme, sage and baking spices. The scents are lifted by lingering rose petal and violet aromas, while deeper notes of graphite, leather, and pipe tobacco bring depth. On the palate, the wine echoes the initial aromatics with juicy flavors of blue and red fruits and hints of secondary flavors like chocolate malt, duke de leche, coffee and a bit of earthiness. As the wine continues across the palate, it grows in breadth and richness with a density and concentration that is impressive. Supple tannins and refreshing acidity give shape and structure to the weight of the fruit harmonizing nicely and leading to a long finish ending on flavors of blue fruits and spice. Soft, inviting, and light on its feet, the 2016 A to Z Pinot Noir is built for midterm aging and will drink great over the next 5 years .

THE STORY TO KNOW

A to Z Wineworks was started in 2002 by Oregon wine industry veterans: Deb Hatcher (Eyrie), Bill Hatcher (Domaine Drouhin Oregon), Sam Tannahill (Archery Summit) and Cheryl Francis (Chehalem). The two couples worked in the Hatcher's kitchen to build the original blend honored by Food & Wine magazine as the Best American Pinot Noir under $20. Recognition for A to Z wines as offering dependable quality for great value continues today making A to Z the top-selling Oregon wine brand.

In 2006, the group welcomed another Oregon wine veteran, Michael Davies, as winemaker, and partnered with Gregg Popovich (Coach of the NBA San Antonio Spurs) to buy REX HILL Vineyards and Winery (established in 1982). A to Z has more collective Oregon winemaking experience than any other winery, experience that can make a difference in difficult vintages to stay true to the Essence of Oregon.

A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir has twice been named to Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of the year; A to Z Oregon Pinot Gris is a perennial Best Buy; and A to Z Oregon Chardonnay is America's Best-Selling Oregon Chardonnay. Rose, Rose Bubbles, Riesling and a small selection of the best of the vintage, The Essence of Oregon Pinot Noir, round out the portfolio.

In May 2014, A to Z Wineworks certified as a B Corp subsequently being named as a Best for the World B Corp five years in a row.
