When a legendary grape grower starts making wine, pinot people pay attention! SUPERB price on this today!
With vines planted to the legendary Joseph Swan ‘Selection’ (rumored to have originated in the village of Vosne-Romanée), not to mention the fantastic 2016 vintage, it’s not surprising most of the Ordaz wines end up in Bay Area restaurants... But we scored a parcel from a small broker at this amazing price. Don’t miss if you love ripe, juicy, cinnamon-tinged pinot noir!
Chuy Ordaz has always been a grape grower. He has sold to many famous producers, such as DuMol, Failla, Neyers, and Bedrock. But, he taught his sons to make wine in their garage, with the hope that one would take the hobby to the next level. When he launched Ordaz Family Wines in 2009, he hired a winemaker, but in 2013, his son Eppie (the first Ordaz to graduate from college, obtaining an accounting degree) took over. The Placida Vineyard, in the famed Russian River Valley outside of Sebastopol (famed for pinot noir of course!), makes a classic, cherry juicy, silky, and citrus highlighted wine that we just flipped over. Cinnamon, clove and red earth all play in here, too.
It’s wild to get something so delicious at this price point from Russian River Valley. We have all but 30 cases or so... While it lasts!
