Vinous, 93-94 points
"Glistening magenta. Ripe red berries, candied flowers, licorice and white pepper on the pungent nose; a smoky mineral flourish adds vivacity. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering sweet cherry, raspberry preserve and floral pastille flavors that spread out and deepen on the back half. Closes silky, sweet and impressively long, with slow-building tannins adding shape and subtle grip."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 94-96 points
"Roses, mint and raspberries give the full-bodied 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Habemus Papam a deceptively light, airy feel. Silky tannins reinforce that sensation, finishing with hints of black tea and a soft dusting of Asian five spice powder. It's a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah that should drink well for a decade or more."

Jeb Dunnuck, 91-93 points
"Coming from two different parcels and a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Habemus Papam is another elegant, seamless wine. Black cherries, lavender, exotic pepper, and hints of garrigue all emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort that shines for its fresh, classic character."

Wine Spectator, 93 points
"Features a pure beam of raspberry and red currant coulis racing through, flecked with rooibos tea, mineral, lavender and violet notes. A mineral edge gives this a mouthwatering thread through the fruit. Best from 2021 through 2035. 400 cases made, 200 cases imported."

THE STORY TO KNOW

1874, The first buildings are constructed. Six generations succeed each other at Domaine Santa Duc, each adding their own contribution to its development. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault; the Gras family are committed to bringing out the best in these noble grapes. Massal selections, biodynamics, whole cluster vinification, fermentation with wild yeasts, minimum intervention, non-filtered wines…. Parcel by parcel, Benjamin Gras maintains this meticulous approach at the head of the estate, engaging this heritage and these skills in the service of two immense terroirs of the southern Rhone Valley – Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
