Our love of Domaine de la Janasse knows no bounds. The quality this magnificent estate produces in the Rhône Valley is, in our book, solidly synonymous with impeccably delicious wines. Sourced from their vineyards located north of Courthézon, which is about a stone’s throw from Châteauneuf du Pape, this Côtes du Rhône Villages is a lovely, fruity, meaty wine that can be enjoyed now or in a few more years. It’s garnered 92pts from Decanter, 91pts from James Suckling and 90pts from both Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck, the latter of whom calls it a “layered, silky red that’s loaded with charm."
A blend of even amounts of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, the wine is vibrant with notes of plums, blackberries, black cherries with dried herbs, garrigue, licorice and florals. Ripe, supple, silky with a black tea-like tannin structure. It’s a delightful Côtes du Rhône Villages that you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better for the price.
