The 2016 Cletus Super Tuscan from Corte Medicea just landed, and it’s delicious. Expect aromas of violet and rose, along with mixed cherries, raspberry and notes of smoke, cedar and baking spice. The palate is juicy and expressive, with a bright berry acidity and young dry tannin on the smooth finish. Luca Maroni (Italy’s closest approximation to Robert Parker), is a powerful wine critic and one of Europe’s most trusted palates. Maroni gave this Direct Import Tuscan red 96 points—which may very well mean that the cat is now forever out of the bag for this former wine industry secret.
The 2016 Cletus is a gorgeous blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot, from the elegant, classic vintage of 2016. Ready to drink now, thanks to the wine’s supple, silky and gentle tannins, this Super Tuscan will also repay five to 10 years of cellar time for those Members with patience of steel. Aged for three months in French oak barrels and a further three months in bottle prior to release. Until our Sourcing Team came upon this gem during a trip last year to Tuscany, this particular Super Tuscan was only sold in the E.U. Drink this newly released 2016 with pork dishes, spaghetti in red sauce or old-fashioned meatloaf and see for yourself what American wine lovers have been missing out on!

· Corte Medicea is owned by Tenuta La Bollina, an ultra-modern winery established in the historic residence of the Marquis Figari of Genoa—an Italian aristocrat of considerable fame and incredible taste.
· Winemaker Andrea Bernardini studied at Pisa in one of Italy’s most renowned winemaking schools before working with a number of Tuscan estates including Poggio Bonelli and Ruffina.
· According to James Suckling: “The 2016s are some of the best Super Tuscans tasted this year.” The young vintage promises to give the excellent 2015 Tuscan reds a serious run for their money.
This wine is very bold with structured tanins. It contains notes of blackberry currant and eucalyptus.
