The dudes behind “the dude” single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc are serious about small-lot winemaking. The strive to make wines with incredible depth, richness and length  by implementing small lot winemaking techniques including small lot fermentations, berry sorting and minimal fermentation intervention. Basically, the vineyards speak for themselves and the end result is selected for “the dude”.

Neil Koch and Mark Canepa are not just any winemaking duo. Koch has more than 12 years experience including a long stint studying under legendary Philippe Melka (Seavey, Bryant Family and Vineyard 29) before taking on a winemaking position at Lewis Cellars. By teaming up with friend Mark Canepa of the barrel making company Seguin Moreau (one of the best barrel producers in the business), Koch positioned himself to access not only some of the finest fruit going in the Valley but also the pick of the crop cooperage wise.

TASTING NOTES

From the dudes: This is our first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc from Rutherford. We sourced from a vineyard off of Mee Lane in the heart of Rutherford. We picked early, while acids where still bright, then whole cluster pressed. Fermentation was in stainless steel and kept cold to preserve aromatics. The 2018 vintage is crisp and bright, with flavors of pink grapefruit and aromas of citrus blossom.
